Riverfire 2024 lights up Brisbane this Saturday! Tune in to Channel 9 for full coverage, including the fireworks and air shows.

Brisbane is set to shine brightly this Saturday night as Riverfire by Australian Retirement Trust marks the official opening of the Brisbane Festival 2024. The annual event, renowned for its dazzling fireworks display, will once again transform the city’s skyline, drawing large crowds to the riverbanks and various vantage points across the city.

Channel Nine will provide exclusive coverage of the event, commencing immediately after a special edition of 9News Queensland at 6.00pm AEST on both Channel 9 and 9Now. The network’s long-standing presenters, Melissa Downes and Andrew Lofthouse, will guide viewers through the evening’s events for the 14th consecutive year.

The night promises to be a visual feast, with the Australian Defence Force scheduled to perform its signature aerobatic displays featuring the C17 Globemaster and ARH Tiger Helicopters, alongside a spectacular flyover by an F/A-18 Hornet. These thrilling air shows have become a crowd favourite and will set the stage for the main event—the fireworks.

Speaking ahead of the event, Andrew Lofthouse shared his excitement, noting the unique spectacle that Riverfire offers.

“The sky’s the limit with Riverfire – it just gets better every year. The entire city sparkles, and the view from Flight Centre is unmatched. After covering the Olympics in Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower light up each night, I can confidently say that our Riverfire is a standout experience,” Lofthouse said.

Melissa Downes echoed these sentiments, expressing her affection for the event.

“Riverfire brings us immense joy every year. It illuminates our great city in a way that truly showcases its beauty, and each time we fall in love with it all over again. It’s such a highlight of the year, and we are fortunate to have one of the best vantage points to take in every stunning moment,” Downes remarked.

As the evening approaches, Brisbane’s residents and visitors alike are expected to flock to prime viewing spots, including the Flight Centre HQ, where 9News Queensland will be based for its live coverage. For those unable to attend in person, Nine’s broadcast promises uninterrupted views of the Riverfire spectacle from start to finish.

Riverfire will be televised this Saturday, August 31, following the 9News Queensland special bulletin at 6.00pm AEST on Channel 9 in Queensland and nationally via 9Now.
